I am running Widows 7.....I have exasperated all of the more common solutions to updating my Punkbuster......and can not......I have no clue as to why. When I last played I had XP never ever had a problem updating. I have tried PB web but SOF2 is not listed as a game......I ran the new 1.03 Gold Patch which says in order to install it must alter the program...thinking maybe the gold patch was not up to date and was affecting my ability to update PB.........All in all I am lost. I have searched. Is there ANYONE who I can trust to help me via remote assistance....like Johnny or Bob...or someone who can help me that is known on the server. I am thinking of reinstalling, but I know I did it right the first time.........the only thing I am not sure of is perhaps following installation, I did not update in the proper order.
I have my original CD "Soldier of Fortune II Gold: Double Helix 2003. MY Operating system is 32 bit Win7.......
Plllllease let there be someone kind enough to hold my hand and walk me through this, I am pretty frustrated and dejected, as since my brain injury I just can not think as I once could......

1) You need the game at 1.0.3 which it should already be.
2) Download the PB folder from the Punkbuster Thread on this site.
3) Then unzip and copy the PB folder to your "soldier of fortune II -double helix" directory.
Play game.

I had a problem with pb and had to completely uninstall it. Before you do that,go here houseofboom.proboards.com/thread/329/punkbuster to get the files required. Then uninstall pb. Copy the downloaded folder into sof2 folder. Then run the Punkbuster.exe from that folder. If I recall a menu comes up with the sof2 game listed. If it doesnt, you will have direct the pb instal program to your sof2 folder. This is, I think, the last version of pb that supported sof2 so dont do any updates. This is all taken from memory so dont shoot me if it doesnt work. In fact, dont shoot me if it does work. Or follow the instructions in the previous post which was not there when I started typing this. Actually, do that one first. |

Thanks Bob, trust me I hate being a pest...over this.....
So what I did, after trying many things was read the above reply.....so I did this.....
1) removed old PB folder
2) took downloaded one....the PB folder...and put it where the old one was.....in the main SOF2 Folder.
I checked first.... ~ pb_ver and I am running a newer version... 2.152 .. I connect and last a bit longer.........but run into this message....after I am booted
Server Disconnected: PunkBuster kicked Player "4th" 0 min RESTRICTION Service Communication Failure PnkBstrA.exe
Above you mentioned uninstalling, did you mean I should uninstall whole game, add the Gold 1.03 patch, the Roc Mod, and files from HOB, and then replace the PB folder with the one I got........I have no idea, and I apologize again and sure appreciate your patience.
I tried PBweb, and PB update...neither worked.....

Right click on PB exe and choose Run As Administrator

The HOB PB file, you mean.....in the PB folder the PnkBstrB.exe application....ok ......nothing came up or happened...but I will try to go in now....thank you will let you know what happened

Well I am hooped, have no clue as to what to do....so I guess it is time to pray someone can help me figure this out.......I dunno what to say.....I wish someone knew how to remote assistance me......as I have no idea why this is happening or how to solve........ No, just delete the pb folder for now, and replace it with the one you downloaded. When you run the game, look in the task manager under processes and see if both punkbuster a and punkbuster b are there. Also punkbuster is a service so you may have to restart the computer to make sure its running. You can check that in the task manager as well under services. The name of the service is PnkBstrA. That must also be running.
edit. Johnnny's post below is the most likely solution to bear fruit.

OK first of all I did copy the downloaded version of PB folder and removed the one that was there with it......and saw neither of the processes you spoke of....ran the exe file in the PB as admin....nothing.....I see neither PB processes.......
On the second I did what u said went to link got the windows download pbsetup put it it the PB folder, ran it...and SOF2 was not listed....so I used browse clicked on the main sof2 folder......and it kept saying pick a game from the list......which as said it is not there to pick....I did look for the pb v2.3 but was unable to find one. The link site had a 3 point something version......maybe I am to browse and use another folder or file but I thought the main sof2 folder was what it was looking for....

Do you have the sof2 1.0.3 Gold patch? You may need to reinstall that to get pb working. sof2gold patchThen do the copy to the PB folder. |

I reinstalled the game, did the gold patch, the copied the pb folder into main sof folder, ran the pb exe....as admin .....start game...... it shows the version in console, when connecting....as said shows PB 2. something version enabled....and I get that same error I typed back a few....When I start the game before I connect and start task manager there is no PB process running, not sure if I need to be on a server for pb to be processing but i have none but yours and dont last long enough to try....

OK so what I did was got rid of everything sof.......started from scratch...installed game....and that is all I am doing till advised. I did start the game, just the stock game from my cd, and pulled down the console and I am running Gold Version 1.03, and .995 version of PB.......So I am hoping......and then some that someone can tell me precisely what order to do things.....to appease PB.....as I said I have done nothing but install the game, and start it up to look at console.....thank you, if anyone dares to be so patient to get me playing again......thank you.

firewall might be blocking or stopping your PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe from accessing the internet. Something to check for maybe ??

Already did, and I have no problems downloading....appreciate the attempt.....i've read all i can...trying to figure this out and it does not make sense.....unless it is a Win 7 thing, some people say they cannot run it on win7, and some say they have no problem.......but other people are having problems too.....which maybe unrelated......unless the main pb folder is not where you run pbweb from....I know it is not my firewall.....I know I can download up to 3500 Mbps and upload at 1500......I use to use PBWeb all the time years ago......never had a problem....it would update itself....most of the time......unless I am doing something wrong, which is what I also suspect......So now I am going to sit with my stock version of SOF2 GOLD 1.03 and the stock pb version of.995 until someone who may know a lot more than me and step by step tell me what to do.....previous error messages can be found in previous posts...in case anyone is wondering......and thinks they can help can read the previous posts I made......thank to all, and anyone trying to help me.... 4th  |

So go to www.gamefront.com/files/24338792/Pb.rar and download the file. Unpack the file. Go to control panel, Programs and features, and uninstall punkbuster services. Go to the sof2 folder and get rid of any Pb folder. Copy the downloaded Pb folder into the sof2 folder. Run the setup program. Sof2 will appear in the list of programs. Select sof2. Then direct the installer to the sof2 folder with the browse button if necessary. It may want to update. Dont let it. All being well, the Pb service should be installed as well as punkbuster a and b. See how you get on with this for now. |
